Historic Thrissur Archaeological Museum, started in the year 1938 under the control of Cochin government is one among the best visited tourist spots in Kerala. This great museum behold a wonderful collection of antique things, especially mural paintings preserved from ancient palaces like Mattancherry Palace. Gallery of beautiful paintings was started in the balcony of Thrissur town hall. This picture gallery was transformed to the present form in the year 1975. Thrissur Archaeological Museum, located at Chembukavu in Thrissur district is only 4 kms away from railway stand and bus stand.

Historic Sculptures

Beautiful architecture of Thrissur Archaeological Museum is a composition of both traditional and western style. Urn burials, best known as nannangadi, beads and rare collection of iron implements presents a real feast for visitors eyes. Old stone sculptures and bronze sculptures present in this historic museum makes the spot a favourite destination of archaeologists. Museum also holds a wonderful collection of relics collected from entire kerala. Large statues of famous personalities present in this historic museum appears as though real and captures all eyes of tourists. These statues are best known as veerakallu or herostones depicting the bravery of rulers.

There is no entry fee and all days except Monday and National holidays are working days.
