We all are familiar with the name Nokkukooli. As we all know, this is an unhealthy practice of demanding money for allowing others to do the loading as well as unloading work. The latest news regarding Nokkukooli is that it will be eliminated from the capital city of Kerala state, which is our own Thiruvananthapuram. This great news was announced by the Labour Minister Shibu Baby John. This is a part of our Kerala government whose determination is to change the image of Kerala labour. Majority of the persons who demanded this Nokkukooli were found to be not registered head load workers.
As a part of the new decision taken by Kerala government, provisions will be made for loading & unloading charges through banks only. The amount will be electronically transferred to the fund & as a result the registered workers can engage to do the work against receipts. Disputes over charges can be eliminated by means of this system. Once the computer systems are upgraded in different cities of our Kerala state, the facility for loading & unloading charges will be made available. If people have any complaint, they can call the 24 hour labour helpline for registering complaints.
