Gramoxone is a banned pesticide. But still it is used in the capital city of our God's own country. The latest news regarding Gramoxone is that it is causing some serious health problems to the local residents of Thiruvananthapuram. The areas in Thiruvananthapuram, where serious health hazards were reported include Nellimoodu, Thannimoodu, Kappivila, Puliyarakonam & Mayilamoodu respectively.
It should be noted that Gramoxone is used in rubber plantations even though it was included in the list of banned pesticides that was issued by the Kerala government two months ago. This pesticide delivers fast & was found to be efficient in controlling sedges, grasses & weeds. But as a result of the wide spread use of this pesticide in the areas mentioned above, the locals are reported to have problems like fever, respiratory & vision problems if inhaled, skin lesions, vision problems & eye burns after contact with eyes. Now the local residents have filed a complaint against Gramoxone to Oommen Chandy, chief minister of Kerala & the health department authorities.
It is important to note that most of the pesticides which are banned or restricted in foreign countries are still used in our God's own country.
