Kerala Water Authority recommends high increase in water tax
Following the increased rate of petrol and electricity charges water authority too recommended to the government for a increase in water taxes. If the authority’s recommendation approves then there will be a five-fold increase in water taxes.
Today Kerala water authority recommended to the government for increase the water taxes. They recommended for a huge increase that five-fold more than the current tax. The board meeting of water authority took this decision on Sunday. According to the consumption the increase percentage may be from 20 percentages to 150 percentages. If the Kerala government approves the water authority's recommendation the minimum rate of Rupees 20 will increase to Rupees 100 as minimum charge.
The authority's recommendation will discuss on next cabinet meeting of Kerala ministers. The minimum consumption of water is 5000 liters per month and the rate for this is Rs 20. Extra consumption is calculated as 1000 liters i.e. One unit. The tax for extra usage is now 4 to 6 Rupees for One unit. If the new tax rate comes the extra usage rate is increase for 10 Rupees for One unit (1000 liters).
However what is the reason for this recommendation is not clear yet. May be details will be come later. Now wait for the cabinet meeting's decision.
