The Hay Festival Kerala will begin on 17 November 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, India. This is a three day festival & its important feature is writers as well as top poets from different parts of the world will head to this capital city in our God's own country. Another fact is that our state plays host to this 2nd edition of the British literary event. Journalists, novelists, poets, film makers as well as performers from India & different parts of the world will attend this Hay Festival Kerala. Lyndy Cooke is the executive director of this Hay Festival. It should be noted that 24 years ago, this festival started in Wales. Following an outstanding launch last year, this will be the second festival in our God's own country.
Hay in collaboration with the teamwork productions has programmed several poets working in different languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Spanish, Hindi, English, Welsh & Icelandic from different parts of the world. It should be noted that this world language celebration will take place in a poetry gala in the Kanakakunnu Palace, which is the former retreat of the Travancore royal family. Important persons are K. Satchidanandan, Arundhati Subramaniam, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Jung Chang, Oscar winning film maker Andrew Ruhemann, Anita Nair(author), Agnes Desarthe(award winning French novelist), Nik Gowing(BBC World Anchor) chairing a debate on energy production, Simon Singh lecturing about cosmology & codes , & Germaine Greer(academic as well as writer) speaking about Shakespeare's lovers. Hay festival 2011 celebrates the languages of the world as well as the issues of the day. Moreover all members who participate in this hay festival will be able to enjoy the food & surroundings of our God's own country.
