3 villages in Kerala to be developed as folk villages

The 3 villages of our Kerala state, India have been chosen by the Kerala State Folklore Akademi to be developed as folk villages. The selected villages are Kodakkad in Kasargod, Vellavur in Kottayam & Kannapuram in Kannur respectively. These villages will show the traditional life features & the folk culture that is mainly related to the rural life. B. Muhammad Ahamed, who is the Chairman of the Kerala State Folklore Akademi, said that the above mentioned villages would have an archive, a folk museum as well as a study centre. The study centre will be used to spread the information regarding the cultural as well as rural life of the village. These villages will be developed as organic museums so that they will replicate the important features of folk culture.
In order to develop the proposed Travancore Folk Village at Vellavur located on the banks of the Manimalayar River in Kottayam district of Kerala state, India, the 2 acres of land offered by the local panchayat, will be soon handed over to the cultural department. Apart from this, the folk villages would have a theatre that features about 47 folk arts that are identified in the region of central Travancore.
But the Kannapuram Folk Village would be focusing on the preservation as well as display of folk performing arts. A Folk Study Centre will be opened at the Chembai Music College located in Palakkad district of Kerala state, India. This is mainly meant for researchers & music students. Also there will be a display of musical instruments in this study centre. In order to popularize folklore among students, the Kerala State Folklore Akademi has decided to open folk clubs in colleges & schools. As most people know the fact that this folk cultural activites were very popular in the Malabar region, efforts will be taken by the Kerala State Folklore Akademi to popularize it in the southern parts of our state also.
