Punya Poonkavanom drive launched at Sabarimala
A daily one hour cleaning drive called Punya Poonkavanom was started at Sabarimala on 23 November 2011. This project was inaugurated by Kandararu Maheswararu, who is the temple tantric. On the starting day, priests, duty staff of different government departments & rapid action force of the central reserve police force & Travancore Devaswom Board took part in this cleaning drive. This will be a daily process throughout the ongoing pilgrim season from 9:00AM to 10:00AM. Some of the important persons who participated in the Punya Poonkavanom drive on the launching day were K. N. Eeswaran Namboodiri(Malikapuram Melsanthi), N. Balamurali(Sabarimala Melsanthi), P. Vijayan(Police special officer at Sannidhanam), K. Padmakumar(Inspector general of police & Sabarimala Police Co-ordinator), Sathishkumar(Devaswom Executive Officer) & many more. As part of this cleaning drive, the rapid action force personnel deployed at the Sannidhanam have cleaned the appam-aravana counter. This scheme was meant for keeping the pilgrim centre clean & to ensure the involvement of duty staff also in this effort. Security Arrangements for Makarajyoti Darshan
For worshipping Makarajyoti on the Makaravilakku day in Sabarimala, tight security arrangements are made to ensure the safety of Ayyappa devotees congregating at Sabarimala Sannidhanam, Pulmedu, Pampa & various other places. Besides Sabarimala Sannidhanam & Pulmedu, there are different places in Pathanamthitta & Idukki districts where the devotees congregate for worshipping Makarajyoti. During the Makaravilakku festival, C. Rajagopal(Superintendent of Police in Kottayam) will be the police special officer at Erumely while R. Sreelekha(Inspector General of Police) is the police co-ordinator at Idukki district. The entire Pampa-Sabarimala stretch is included in the security manual & along the route specially trained security personnel will be deployed. Another important fact is that on 6 December 2011 & 7 December 2011, there will be special security arrangements in Pampa & Sannidhanam. This is in connection with the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya. As we all know there are different religious groups in our state. The state police is carrying out security audit at all the important places of worship in Kerala.
