16th International Film Festival of Kerala 2011 (IFFK) from 9 December

The 2011 International Film Festival of Kerala, popularly known as IFFK, will be starting on 9 December 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of our Kerala state in India. This 16th edition of IFFK is organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Kerala Government. Started in the year 1996, IFFK is conducted every year in the month of November/December. For the first time, this IFFK was held in Kozhikode. IFFK main awards for the best film and director are golden crown pheasant award (Suwarna Chakoram) and silver crown pheasant award (Rajatha Chakoram) respectively. The inaugural film for IFFK 2011 is Under The Hawthorn Tree, directed by Zhang Yimou. There are different categories in 16th IFFK like Retrospective section, Arab cinema package, Kicking and screening package, International competition section, Kaidan horror classics package, Contemporary masters in focus, Philippine cinema, Malayalam cinema now and Indian cinema now. Among these film makers, Robert Bresson is famous French film maker whose films, dealing with variety of themes will be screened in the festival. The important films of Robert bresson are Ladies of the bojs de Boulogne, L'argent, by chance Balthazar, Mouchette and The trial of Joan of Arc respectively. But the hit films of Nagis Oshima are Sing a song of sex, Boy, Sinners in the paradise, The Street of love and hope, The Sun's burial etc. Some of the hit films of Theodoros Angelopoulos include Landscape in the mist, The weeping meadow and Ulysses Gaze. For the International film festival of Kerala 2011, the 8 films of the noted film maker Djibril Diob Mambety like The Badou boy, Contras city, Hynas, Le franc, The little girl who sold the sun, Touki Bouki, Tell us of grandmother and Ninka Nanka- The prince of Colobane will be screened. Going home, Hallelujah the hills, Wind flowers and the brig are some films of Adolfas Mekas, that will be screened for this film festival. When taking into consideration, Yasuzo Masumura a Japanese film maker, some of his films that will be screened for this 2011 IFFK Thiruvananthapuram include A wife confess, A woman's testament, The hoodlum soldiers and The precipice respectively.16th IFFK 2011 Arab Cinema Package Films
