Mullaperiyar Dam – Latest news and discussions

Mullaperiyar Dam issues, the latest news revealed that, the prohibitory orders were imposed in Kumali Town, due to bad incidents of stoning vehicles. Latest news about Mullaperiyar Dam and latest issues between Kerala and Tamil Nadu are given here.


According to the latest news there is a bad incidents had happened on the Kerala Tamil Nadu Boarder that stoning vehicles on Monday, on December 5th Monday might, the police officials were enforced prohibitory orders in Kumali Town following this bad situation. Now the situation was normal the police officials said.

On 5th December in New Delhi, there were conducted a meeting by the court –appointed Committee on the Mullaperiyar Dam issues. The meeting discussed about the protests and panic in Kerala on Muallaperiyar Dam issues.

According to the Kerala news the state Revenue Minister K.M. Mani began his daylong fast ain Idukki, the dam is located in this district, for requesting the construction of a new Dam. The state water resource minister P.J. Joseph on a daylong fast in Gandi Smriti AT Delhi for praying to change the attitude of Tamil Nadu on Mullaperiyar issues.

The meetings and talks about Muallaperiyar dam dispute was happened in various parts of the country in state level and central level but yet there is no taken any perfect decision about this issues. The Kerala Government is demanding for new Dam construction, but Tamil Nadu Government rejects the Kerala's demand and said that the condition of Mullaperiayar Dam is safe. According to the officials the age of this Mullaperiyar Dam is 116- year-old, so the earthquakes has happening the nearby region will be affect the Mullaperiyar Dam, and will cause the death of millions of peoples in kerala.

But the Tamil Nadu Prime Minister Jayalalitha do not understanding the Kerala's situation. She said that the Dam is strong and has been periodically repaired. The central government invited senior officials from Kerala and Tamil Nadu for detailed discussion about Mullaperiyar Dam issues. Whereas the Supreme Court appointed panel decided to send two member team to search the Mullaperiyar Dam condition, but it was canceled due to rising some problems against this decision.

The MDMK leader Vaiko met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to discuss the debate between Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Mullaperiyar Dam issues and recommended him to adopt central forces to protect the Dam. Today all party meeting is arranging and discussing about the Muallaperiyar Issues. The Kerala government expecting that the central government will allow the construction of new dam. The peoples nearby area of the dam, they were left from their house for their safe.

According to official sources, the committee, they are appointed by the Supreme Court on the Muallaperiyar Dam issues, has consider the application of Kerala government for lowering the water level in the dam to 120 feet. The latest news on 6th December 2011 Tuesday revealed that the water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam has fall to 135.9 feet, the permitted level of water is 136 feet. The excess water on the Muallaperiyar Dam allows to flow to Idukki dam through Periyar River, so the district collector had given a high alert to the peoples whose are living on the banks of Periayar River.
