Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy decided to lead an all party delegation from Kerala to the Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh. The delegation is for the approval of a new dam at Mullaperiyar. Here read the latest news about the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

Chief Minister Oomen Chandy decided to lead an all – party delegation from Kerala to the Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh. The objective of the all – party delegation is for convincing the Prime Minister about the demand of Kerala for a new dam instead of the old dangerous Mullaperiyar dam. The decision was announced by Kerala Chief Minister on the press meet held on Wednesday. The press meet was after the cabinet meeting held there. The all – party delegation includes Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanathan and all other top party leaders of Kerala. The delegation will lead by Oomen Chandy and he already asked an appointment from Prime Minister.

An official meeting of Tamil Nadu and Kerala states will be take place on December 15th or December 16th for making an acceptable solution for the present problem of Mullaperiyar dam controversy. it is expected that the solution will be favorable for both the states that is, safety for Kerala and water for Tamil Nadu. On the last week Oomen Chandy met Mr. Manmohan Singh and asked his help for solving the Mullaperiyar controversy. He requested for a new dam to replace the 116 years old Mullaperiyar dam.
The necessity of a new dam is the demand of all Keralites. All major political parties in Kerala demanding the same to save Kerala from the dangerous water bomb. Today LDF is forming a human wall from the Mullaperiyar dam location to Arabian sea at Cochin. Their one and only demand is the construction of a new dam. Congress leader and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala is fasting in front of the Martyrs Column today. The fast is from 9 am to 5 pm. Yesterday opposition leader V. S. Achuthananthan observed fast at Vandiperiyar demanded for a new dam in Mullaperiyar.

Tamilians are protesting the demand of Kerala. Marumalavchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Vaiko strongly protest the need of Kerala for a new dam. Yesterday he arranged a day – long campaign and awareness from Madhurai to Theni district said that construction of a new dam is not a possible solution.
