Mullaperiyar damThe two technical experts appointed by the Supreme court on Mullaperiyar issue visited the Mullaperiyar dam and submitted their technical report before the full bench of the panel. Their report on the safety of the controversial Mullaperiyar reservoir says that the recent earth quakes took place in the area has not affected or cause any damage to the structural safety of the Mullaperiyar Dam.

The two technical experts, C D Thatte and D K Mehta are Supreme Court-appointed empowered committee on Mullaperiyar dam issue. The team inspected and reported that they have not found any cracks in the dam as reported the State Government of Kerala. But the Kerala government responded immediately by filing a complaint before the panel alleging that the two experts were "unfair and highly prejudicial to the interests of the state" during the inspection process. Kerala has the opinion that the the expert committee is favouring the Tamilandu government with no reason. During the inspection time, the expert panel told Lathika, the Chief engineer of Kerala not to speak while she tried to explain certain things on the issue. But the expert panel has also pointed in the report that Tamilnadu government has not carried out any maintenance work as directed by the Supreme Court of India.

Kerala is still fighting for the requirement of new Dam as the existing structure is vulnerable to earthquakes and is a major threat to the humanity. Kerala Government is also demanding to reduce the water level in the reservoir to 120 feet from the existing level of 136 feet to ensure the safety of the Dam. Kerala government has ensured that they will provide the same amount of water to Tamilnadu and they are only concerned about the safety of the people in Kerala and they will construct and meet the full expense of the new dam. But still Tamilnadu is not ready to agree Kerala's demand.
