Piravom assembly constituency bye-election date preponed from March 18 To March 17. The all-party meeting conducted by chief electoral officer Nalini Netto, had unanimously decided to advance the Piravom by-poll to March 17, a day ahead of the scheduled March 18 date. Both the UDF and LDF have been demanding to change in the poll date since the Election Commission made the announcement. Piravom by-poll was necessitated by the death of TM Jacob, who was the food minister in the Umman Chandy cabinet. After the death of TM Jacob, the strength of the UDF in the assembly reduced to 71, including the speaker, against 68 seats held by the LDF. The counting of votes will be held on March 21.

Anoop Jacob UDF Candidate


Anoop Jacob, son of late T M Jacob and the president of the youth wing of the Kerala Congress (Jacob) party will be contesting the Piravom bye-election as a UDF Candidate. He is a law graduate and currently the president of the Kerala youth front which represents the youth wing of the Kerala Congress (Jacob) party.

M J Jacob LDF candidate


M J Jacob, who represented Piravom assembly constituency from 2006 to 2011, will be the LDF candidate. The LDF candidate M J Jacob who had lost the 2011 election to the UDF candidate T M Jacob by a narrow margin of 157 votes.

KR Rajagopal BJP candidate


KR Rajagopal,son of former Minister KGR Kartha, has been selected as the BJP candidate.

• In 1977 election T M Jacob (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 5730 votes, compared to his immediate rival Alunkal Devassy.

• In 1980 election P C Chakko (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 3251 votes, compared to his immediate rival C Poulose.

• In 1982 election Benny Behanan (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 1976 votes, compared to his immediate rival Raman Kartha.

• In 1987 election Gopi Kottamurikkal (LDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 16300 votes, compared to his immediate rival Benny Behanan.

• In 1991 election T M Jacob (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 2947 votes, compared to his immediate rival Gopi Kottamurikkal.

• In 1996 election T M Jacob (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 7708 votes, compared to his immediate rival C Poulose.

• In 2001 election T M Jacob (UDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 12720 votes, compared to his immediate rival Gopi Kottamurikkal.

• In 2006 election M J Jacob (LDF) won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 5150 votes, compared to his immediate rival T M Jacob.

• In 2011 election T M Jacob (UDF) Won the Piravom assembly seat by a margin of 157 votes, compared to his immediate rival M J Jacob.
