Anwar Rasheed abides popularly labeled as the comrade of hit maker is back after success ventures like Rajamanikyam, Chotta Mumbai and Annan Thambi. After creating history in the Kerala box office featuring Megastar Mammooty in two of his movies, Anwar has joined his son Dulquer Salman for the movie Usthad Hotel who already has come out of the shadow of his father. The story of the movie revolves around a hotel named Usthad Hotel. Commonly Usthad is referred to a teacher in Muslim school (Madrassa), but here it shows as a friend in every aspect both in letter and the spirit. The movie depicts the strength of relation apart from the age and generation gap by portraying friendship among an old man and his grandson. The movie highlights the theme of friendship. Anwar has tried to create living appearance by picturesque vision of the ordinary people living in Kozhikode.
Kareem has been managing the 'Usthad Hotel' for the last 35 years while his grandson Faisy always supports him both physically and mentally. People used to flock into the hotel to taste the mesmerizing and delicious cuisine served. The food was enough to satisfy most of the customers which included locals and outside people. Thilakan dons the role of Kareem while Dulquer has essayed the role of his grandson Faisy. Nithya Menon is depicting the character Shahana, a charming muslim girl who is the lover of Faisy. Dulquer Salman has truly taken the audience in hands who has startled the viewers with his majestic performance. Actor Thilakan is a true gift to malayalam movie industry who has proved his mettle again in the movie donning the charcter role of Karim Ikka. Nithya Menon has also done justice to her character while peddling up the ladder to become a leading heroine in malayalam movie industry.
What makes malayalam movies stand ahead of other languages is the thought of giving high credits to the script of movies. The back bone of Usthad Hotel truly will be the script which has been handled by Anjaly Menon who has created amicable space for all the characters to move freely. Anjaly who had made name with her directorial debut Manjadikkuru will make her hold strong behind the screen in the days to come.
The movie is produced by Listin Stephen under the banner Magic frames. The production company which had made movies like Traffic and Chappa Kurish do wish to continue the series of success through this movie too. The songs tuned by Gopi Sunder do keep the ears soothing.
