Respected sir, teachers and my dear friends,

A very warm good morning and my independence day wishes to all the assemblage. I am very privileged to address you all on the eve of 68th Indian Independence Day.

Today is our Independence day and we are happy to live in such an independent and republic nation with full freedom. Am I right? Yes, now we have all the freedom, but few decades back we are slaves of the British Empire. Our ancients leaders have tolerated a lot to give us this freedom. We do have enormous leaders who are considered to be the best leaders in this world. The best example of such leader is our national father Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi popularly known as Mahatma Gandhiji.

Mahathma Gandhi is an unequaled person who had gained freedom for our nation with his mind power and will power. He has started a new mode of fight for the freedom. He has put forward non cooperation, non violence and peaceful resistance as his weapon. The weapon may not create powerful attack as in war, but it got tremendous impact on the people of India. Gandhiji has gained a vast number of followers and supporters who stood behind him in struggle for the freedom.

Gandhiji has emerged to be called as father of our nation being a leader who led our fight against British Empire. Apart from any other war, his resistance was really noble while sticking on to non violence path which gave him respect from all over the world. His mode of resistance called " Sathyagraha" was experienced by the world with curiosity. This strike had a great influence in contemporary world too.

Not only Gandhiji but also a number of other leaders also participated in the freedom fight against the Britsh empire. Jawaharlal Nehru, Balagangadar Thilak, Lala Lajpath Rai, Gopala Krishna Gokale, Ambedkar, Subash Chandrabose, Bagath Singh, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Moulana Abdul Kalam Asad etc are few of them. Combined fight led by them for the achievement of independent nation has succeeded on the day of August 15 1947 and our nation become republic on the day of January 26 1950.

Gandhiji's impact has also reflected in Kerala too. By following his mode of resistance, freedom fighters in Kerala also have participated in Salt Sathyagraha. In Kerala the Salt Sathyagraha which was held at Kannur Payyannur beach was led by K Kelappan. . P. Krishna Pillai, A.K. Gopalan, Muhamed Abdul Rahiman and E.M.S. Namboothiripad are some of the Kerala freedom fighters who took part in bringing freedom to the country.

When we think about contemporary politics, let me raise a question. Is it the real mode of Indian politics? We can undoubtedly say a big no. The present politics and political parties are working for their own benefits while corruption and crime go hand in hand. The challenges faced by India are terrorism, Illiteracy, poverty and casteism. These constraints have to be avoided to make our nation a developed one among world.

We children are the future builders of our county. So, we should understand the exact struggles faced by our historic fighters. We have to sustain the independence of our nation and develop our nation. Let's make a pledge to work for the welfare of the country. Thus fulfill the dream our historical leaders.

Thank you for all,

Jai Hind.
