Alappuzha / Alleppey Beach is located in the state of Kerala which is fondly known as the Venice of the East.

Alleppey or the Alappuzha Beach is a a network of canals, backwaters, lakes and lagoons all put together in one area resembles very much the Venice of Europe. These have made Alappuzha one of the favourite destination in Kerala of India.

History of Alappuzha / Alleppey

In the earlier days Alappuzha Beach had flourished as a port which was located between the Arabian Sea and the Punnamada backwaters and a gateway to the state of Kerala. It was Raja Keshav Das who was the Deewan of the state of Travancore, built the port in the 18th century.

Facilities at the Alappuzha Beach

Alleppey beach has many recreational and adventure activities like Scenic cruises, Houseboat rides, Water scooters, speed boats. You have to arrange for a guide before playing water sports in the beach. You can also play volley ball and other games in the beach.
You can also meet the fishermen there and interact with them, to find out the ways of fishing, collectiong the catch and taking them to the market.

Places to visit near the Alappuzha Beach

You can also visit light house that stands as a memorial to the golden days that went by. There is a Beach Park in the Alappuzha Beach and is promoted and maintained by the District Promotion Council. The Park offers a lot of possibilities for the kids.

About Nehru Trophy Boat Race

Nehru Trophy Boat race gets played here every year during the Onam festival time. This gala event brings not only the locals but all the tourists as well.

How to Reach the Alappuzha Beach

You have to reach Kochi Nedumbassery airport which is the closest and hire vehicles from there to the Beach. You can also get transport buses to the beach which run regularly frpm Ernakulam bus stand to Alappuzha busstand. You can reach Alappuzha railway station through trains running from all over Kerala. There is a passenger running regularly from Ernakulam Junction to Alappuzha station.
From the Alappuzha railway station you can get autos to reach the beach. All types of Accomodation are available there from star hotels and resorts to homestays. You can choose the one you like if you plan to spend the night.
