Thrissur Pooram Celebration 2011 live
Thrissur Pooram, renowned cultural fest of Kerala celebrated Medam month of Malayalam calendar (May 12 th of 2011). A large gathering will witness the celebrations of Thrissur pooram at the venue Vadakkunathan temple at Thrissur, over 2 lakh people will watch the proceedings on site and millions will watch the live telecast and web cast of Thrissur pooram. Thrissur Pooram marks the end of Festival season in Kerala. This temple festival of Kerla originated in times of Sakthan Thampuran around 200 years back is still celebrated with the same enthusiasm and glare as before.
Ten major temples surrounding the Vadakkum Nathan temple participate in the festival in two groups, each headed by the Paramekkavu Temple and Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple. Major attraction of thrissur Pooram is Kudamartam,Shikkarimelam and the fireworks. Two groups paramekkavu and Thiruambadi groups gather at the two ends of the Vadakkumnadan temple ground, with people on decorated elephants with colored umbrellas on top of it , the decorated umbrellas will be changed in response to the opposite group with the beats of Drum(chenda),this is termed Kudamattam , it is most attractive event of the evening at Thrissur Pooram and fireworks will begin by mid night
