Another world record set in Kerala to bring global attention towards another exclusive news from Kannur,Kerala. Breaking all previous records on 18th September 2011, people of Kannur joined together to be a part of the world's largest Pookalam ever designed. This large floral carpet is named as 'Othoruma' which has 20,000 sq ft in length which had been set in the biggest Pandal(tent) of 40,000 sf ft. There are no pillors in between Pandal which too will be a world record. This Gaint Pookalam was designed by Sasikala who hails from Kannur. Its estimated that around 25 lakhs rupees had been spend for arranging this pookalam.Specialties of the Giant Pookalam

This flower carpet was being arranged at the Collectrate stadium in Kannur district in Kerala. Special attractions of this floral carpet is that seven varieties of flowers imported from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu which include flowers like 'chetty' flower, 'astras', 'chinthamani', white'jamanthi', 'chendumalli' were used. Many people including representation from NCC, NSS, Scouts and guides, junior red cross, college and school students, and Kudumbasree woman had joined together to make this huge pookalam.
Various symbolic pictures were added in the Pookalam to make the design for making it more attractive. The seven varieties of flowers symbolize seven continents. Added to this 'Theyyam', symbolizing the art culture of kerala, an image of a pigeon at the centre surrounded by a human chain represents world peace. The flower arrangement had an on-the-spot video recording done from the beginning till the end to ensure the reliability of the performance. This video will be send to the Guinness Book of Records and Limca Book of Records authorities to verify and for assessment.
This Giant Pookalam at Kannur would cross the previous records set at Kozhikode in 2010 and at Kochi in 2008 which measured 15,000 sq ft and 12,000 sq ft respectively. Eminent personalities like Raja Ravindhara Varma, MP Abdullakutty MLA were present during the occasion.
