After much acclaimed 'Paradesi' in 2007, director P T Kunhumuhammad is coming with another high scale movie 'Veeraputhran'. Unlike his former pictures which mainly dealt with the NRI issues, the new flick will ride through some important chapters of the Independence movement in Kerala.
Veeraputhran is based on a story written by N P Muhammad about the life and times of Muhammad Abdu Rehman Sahib, one of the foremost freedom fighters and activists in Kerala. The film will portray the life of Abu Rehman from his entry to the politis in 1921 to the demise in 1945. It will feature some notable events of freedom struggle like Malabar revolt and Salt Satyagraha. In parallel to this, the personal life of Abdu Rehman will also be portrayed.
Narain, with his career best character, will be making a strong comeback to the cinema arena. He will play the pivotal role of Abdu Rehman Sahib. Although it was Prithviraj who had been supposed to do the role, he had to pull out due to the date problems. Then Narain was selected. The film's success mostly depends upon the fact that how well Narain has merged to the character. The film will prove the talent and ability of the young actor to handle challenging roles.
Veeraputhran will introduce acclaimed Bollywood actress Raima Sen to the Malayalam film industry. She will be playing the role of 'Kunji Beevathu', the wife of Abdu Rehman. Tamil star Sarath Kumar also appears in the movie as a historian named Vimal Kumar, the role which was earlier supposed to be played by Mohanlal. The film will also feature a group of famed actors like Siddique, Sai Kumar, Lakshmi Gopalaswami, Ashokan, Kalabhavan Mani, Devan and Mamukkoya.
Veeraputhran was shot over a few historical places Kodungalloor, Kozhikkode, Thalassery and Chennai. The film is produced by Siddique Mankara. Veeraputhran will have five songs composed by Ramesh Narayanan including those patriotic songs written by Idassery and Amshi Narayana Pillai.
