Shankaranum Mohananum was initially titled as Kinavalli after which the director decided to change the name. The lead role in the film is played by Jayasurya. The actor will be shown in a double role with Rima Kallingal and Meera Nandan as his heroines. T.V Chandran, who is famous for his well-made art films has come out for the first time with a film which revolves around the current relationships in the modern world. Jayasurya will be donning about 20 different looks through this film. The film has been handled sensitively to portray human relationships. The bond between the two brothers is beautifully shown. The story of Shankaranum Mohananum is as such. It revolves around two brothers, both played by Jayasurya as a double role. One brother is a fashion photographer named Mohanakrishnan and the other is a school teacher named Shankaran who teaches in a village in Kerala. Mohanakrishnan, who is currently living in Kochi, was earlier settled in Mumbai with his wife, Jyotsna Mathew (Rima Kallingal). Due to some circumstances, the couple separate and Mohan moves to Kochi. Jyotsna who is a model and an ambitious actor still lives in Mumbai with the couple's child. Shankaran, who is already in his forties is also married to a village girl much younger than him named Rajalakshmi (Meera Nandan). Just a day after their marriage, Shankaran dies from a snake bite. After Shankaran dies, Mohan falls into many circumstances where he is forced to disguise as his elder brother. Mohan has to face many strange incidents from the ghost of Shankaran. The ghost of Shankaran continuously haunts Mohan in various get-up's because of his endless love for his wife and ironically also because of the loveless life of Mohan. Though divorced, Shankaran is immensely devoted to Jyotsna. Rajalakshmi also goes through some weird situations which provoke her to seek help from Mohan. The director, T.V Chandran says that the story of Shankaranum Mohananum is inspired from his own life as he has also lost is brother many years ago and is still haunted by his memories. This is the first film in which Jayasurya plays a double role. The supporting cast of this film includes Suraj Venjaramoodu, Lalu Alex, Sudheesh, Bijukuttan, Indrans, Kochupreman, Ambika, Rosilin and Kalpana.
